
Sustainable Infrastructure & Green Technologies
The Government of JAPAN has committed US$693,333 to support the transformation of King Mswati III International Airport in ESWATINI into a regional showcase for green and digital airport technologies under a new initiative implemented by the Eswatini Civil Aviation Authority (ESWACAA) with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The project will deploy Japanese Green Transformation (GX) and Digital Transformation (DX) technologies, including a 0.2 MW solar photovoltaic system with battery storage, smart cargo warehouse upgrades, cold-chain modernization and a digital logistics coordination platform aimed at improving operational efficiency, reducing energy costs and enhancing cargo handling capabilities. The initiative seeks to strengthen the airport's competitiveness as a regional air cargo gateway by improving trade facilitation, reducing cargo dwell times, supporting export-oriented industries and enhancing compliance with international cold-chain standards.
