    Construction has officially commenced on the expansion of airside infrastructure at Douala International Airport, marking the first operational phase of a CFA95 billion (approximately US$167 million) modernization programme aimed at increasing the airport's capacity and reinforcing its role as CAMEROON'S primary aviation hub and a key gateway for CENTRAL AFRICA. Announced by Fritz Ntonè Ntonè, the project follows the award of a CFA10.4 billion (approximately US$18 million) contract to China Harbour Engineering Company, which began construction in June 2026 on a new 36,000-square-metre aircraft apron west of Pier B, with completion targeted for June 2027. The expansion is expected to improve aircraft parking capacity, enhance ground operations, strengthen safety, and accommodate growing domestic and international traffic. The second phase will involve a comprehensive upgrade of the passenger terminal, including the renovation of 20,000 square metres of existing facilities, construction of an additional 10,000 square metres, installation of 10 new check-in counters, refurbishment of 80% of baggage carousels, and the addition of new accessibility features such as elevators and ramps.…
