The International Air Transport Association (IATA) held its Focus Africa Conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 29–30 April 2026, hosted by Ethiopian Airlines at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. The high-level gathering brought together African ministers, civil aviation authorities, airline executives, and global aviation stakeholders to accelerate reforms aimed at strengthening safety, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing intra-African air connectivity. Central discussions focused on addressing structural challenges in African aviation, including fragmented regulatory frameworks, high operating costs, infrastructure constraints, and the slow implementation of the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM). The conference also emphasized the importance of digital transformation, improved aviation financing systems, and capacity building to support sustainable growth in the sector.
