    Aviation Agreements Trails: Week 19, 2026

    Angola and Algeria have strengthened their bilateral cooperation in transport and civil aviation through the signing of new legal instruments during the State visit of Angola’s President to Algeria from 11–13 May 2026. A key outcome was the signing of a new Bilateral Air Services Agreement by Angola’s Minister of Transport, Ricardo D’Abreu, replacing the previous framework established in 1976 and updating it to reflect contemporary international aviation requirements, including improved safety standards, regulatory modernization, and enhanced facilitation of air transport. In addition, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the civil aviation authorities of both countries, represented by Angola’s National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC) Chairperson, Amélia Domingues Kuvíngua, to strengthen technical and institutional cooperation in regulation, oversight, and sector development. The agreement is expected to support the establishment of new air links, boost passenger and cargo flows, and stimulate investment between North and Southern Africa.
