MOZAMBIQUE and ALGERIA have signed a new Air Services Agreement that paves the way for the launch of regular direct flights between Algiers and Maputo from January 2027, with operations expected to be undertaken by Air Algérie. Signed by MOZAMBIQUE's Minister of Transport and Logistics, João Matlombe, and ALGERIA's Minister of Transport, Saïd Sayoud, the agreement aims to strengthen bilateral connectivity, facilitate the movement of passengers, boost trade and investment, and support the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) by improving intra-African transport links. Beyond aviation, the two countries also agreed to cooperate on strategic transport infrastructure, including studies for the development of the Nacala Rail Corridor, which connects northern MOZAMBIQUE with MALAWI, ZAMBIA and the DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO, while ALGERIA will also provide technical training for Mozambican personnel in civil aviation, port management, maritime administration and logistics.
