    Namibia and Botswana are exploring plans to establish a joint national airline as part of efforts to strengthen regional air connectivity and address weaknesses in their current aviation sectors. The proposal, confirmed by Botswana’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, originated from discussions between the two countries’ presidents during a 2025 bi-national commission, and envisions a carrier that would directly link Windhoek and Gaborone while also serving regional and international routes. The initiative comes at a time when Namibia is moving to relaunch a national airline after the liquidation of Air Namibia in 2021, and Botswana’s Air Botswana continues to face financial and operational challenges. 

    Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger have signed a landmark aviation agreement to establish a joint regional airline under the framework of the Alliance of Sahel States, marking a major step toward deeper transport and economic integration in the Sahel region.
