    A Zambian Air Force Sikorsky S-76C++ helicopter, registration AF717, was involved in an accident shortly after take-off from Nakonde in Muchinga Province on 9 July 2026, after reportedly experiencing a technical problem during the initial climb. The helicopter was carrying Zambian Vice President Dr. W. K. Mutale Nalumango and seven other occupants on an official engagement linked to campaign activities ahead of the country's upcoming general elections. According to preliminary reports, the flight crew executed an emergency crash landing moments after the aircraft became airborne. Although the helicopter sustained substantial damage, all eight occupants escaped without injury, and no fatalities were reported on the ground or onboard. Zambian government officials confirmed that the Vice President, passengers, and crew were safe following the incident. The cause of the reported technical malfunction has not yet been officially established, and an investigation is expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
