Africa's largest carrier, Ethiopian Airlines, reported a 20% year-on-year increase in revenue to US$9.1 billion for the 2025/26 financial year, underscoring its continued strong growth despite regional operational challenges. According to the state-run Ethiopia News Agency, the airline carried 20.7 million passengers, up 10% from the previous year, while cargo volumes grew 16% to 897,000 metric tonnes, reinforcing its position as Africa's leading passenger and freight airline. During the year, the carrier expanded its fleet by nine aircraft and continued investing in infrastructure at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport to support future growth. Ethiopian Airlines also advanced its fleet expansion strategy by announcing the acquisition of six additional Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners to strengthen its long-haul network and is expected to decide on an order for 25 smaller commercial aircraft to expand domestic and regional operations. Although the airline did not disclose its profit figures, it noted that financial performance was affected by flight disruptions linked to the conflict in the Middle East and the Ebola outbreak in the DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO.
