Aviation Projections and Statistics
Airbus’ latest Global Market Forecast projects that global air passenger traffic will more than double to exceed 10 billion passengers annually by 2045, driven by an average annual growth rate of 3.9% and a doubling of global revenue passenger kilometres to 21.3 trillion. The aircraft manufacturer forecasts demand for 42,060 new commercial aircraft between 2026 and 2045, including 33,920 single-aisle and 8,140 wide-body aircraft, with nearly half of deliveries dedicated to replacing ageing fleets. Airbus identified airline network expansion, the growth of longer thin routes connecting smaller cities, rising wealth in emerging markets, and increasing demand for direct connectivity as key growth drivers. The forecast highlights growing opportunities in regions such as AFRICA, ASIA, and LATIN AMERICA, where rising air travel demand and improving connectivity are expected to support fleet expansion and modernisation. Airbus also noted the ageing global fleet, with only 53% of aircraft less than 10 years old in 2025, reinforcing the need for more fuel-efficient aircraft and sustainable fleet renewal.
