Egypt has begun trial operations of a new Galaxy radar system at Cairo International Airport, with the Russian-developed platform undergoing testing across the Area Control Centre, approach control unit and control tower without reported flight delays or disruption. The system uses four-dimensional trajectory tracking, integrating radar data, aircraft positions and flight-plan information into a single operational picture to improve air-traffic management and controller situational awareness. The trial comes as Cairo Airport experiences sustained traffic growth: the airport handled more than 8 million passengers in Q1 2026, representing a 9% year-on-year increase, after passenger traffic rose 6.8% in 2025 to 30.94 million, while flight movements increased 4.8% to 224,303. Cairo also recorded a daily traffic record in December, handling approximately 103,000 passengers across 696 flights in a single day.
