At the 2026 ACI Africa Passenger Facilitation & Readiness Excellence Awards in Abuja, Tanzania secured three continental recognitions through its two principal international gateways, Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) and Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA). KIA was the overall winner in the Stakeholder Engagement/Integration category for airports handling fewer than two million passengers annually, while JNIA finished runner-up in Governance and also runner-up in Innovation & Transformation among airports handling between two and five million passengers per year. The awards were received by Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA) Director of Business and Development Mzee Kilele on behalf of TAA Director General Abdul Mombokaleo during the 35th ACI Africa General Assembly. The recognition reflects the airports’ institutional governance, stakeholder coordination, operational processes, innovation and passenger-facilitation frameworks; ACI Africa’s award methodology evaluates these institutional and operational systems rather than passenger satisfaction alone.
