
LIBERIA is accelerating efforts to secure aerodrome certification for Roberts International Airport (ROB), the country’s main international gateway serving Monrovia, as part of a broader programme to improve aviation safety, regulatory compliance and airport infrastructure. The Liberia Airport Authority (LAA) recently convened the first meeting of the Project Steering Committee overseeing the airport’s certification-readiness process, during which members reviewed a gap assessment report identifying areas requiring attention to meet applicable aerodrome certification requirements. The meeting also emphasised the need to accelerate implementation, strengthen coordination among stakeholders and establish clear priorities for addressing outstanding deficiencies. The certification initiative is progressing alongside wider airport modernisation plans, including upgrades to navigation aids and other operational infrastructure intended to enhance safety, reliability and the airport’s capacity to accommodate air traffic.
