Kabalega International Airport in Hoima received its first aircraft on 27 September 2026, marking a significant operational milestone ahead of its official commissioning. The first aircraft was a twin-engine Let L-410 Turbolet operated by Eagle Air Uganda, carrying football officials and players associated with the CAF fixture between the Uganda Cranes and LIBYA at Hoima City Stadium. A Uganda Airlines flight was also scheduled to arrive later the same day, carrying players and subsequently providing a demonstration flight for selected Bunyoro leaders to Entebbe. State Minister for Transport Fred Byamukama said the flights were organised to demonstrate the airport’s operational readiness, while President Yoweri Museveni is expected to officially commission the facility in January 2027. Formerly known as Kabaale International Airport, the facility features a 3.5-kilometre runway capable of accommodating large aircraft, alongside an aircraft apron, passenger and cargo facilities, fire station and navigation infrastructure.
