Introduction.
Data from OAG revealed strong growth in African aviation in the first ten months of 2026, with 182.4 million departure seats, up 13.7% from 160.4 million in the same period in 2025 and double the 6.1% growth seen between 2024 and 2025. International travel drove most of this expansion, with 129.5 million seats for out-of-Africa destinations, growing 18.6% year-on-year, while domestic, intra-African seats rose only 3.3% to 52.9 million. Among the top five markets, Egypt led with 30.9 million seats (+12.6%), followed by South Africa with 26.8 million (+19.6%), Morocco 22.5 million (+21.8%), Ethiopia 17 million (+31.2%), and Kenya 10.2 million (+22.3%), highlighting both regional diversity and the accelerating demand for international connectivity from Africa.
AOCs/ASLs/Regulations.
Somalia’s autonomous Puntland region has revoked the flight permit for Daallo Airlines at all Puntland airports, effective 1 March 2026, citing safety concerns and alleged violations of civil aviation regulations. The decision followed incidents where Daallo flights were denied landing clearance in Puntland, leaving government officials and passengers stranded, which Puntland officials described as endangering lives and violating rules. The airline has not publicly responded to the revocation.
