    Introduction.

    Regional leaders, including representatives from COMESA, Kenya, and the European Union, have renewed a push for accelerated aviation safety reforms to strengthen air transport across Eastern and Southern Africa. At a twoday meeting in Mombasa under the EUfunded Support to Air Transport Sector Development (SATSD) programme, delegates stressed the need to boost compliance with international safety standards, improve regulatory frameworks, and enhance air navigation efficiency to support trade, tourism, and regional integration. The EU has pledged €8 million to the initiative, and stakeholders highlighted achievements such as support for Revised Abuja Safety Targets and PerformanceBased Navigation systems, while urging member states to implement harmonised reforms before the programme concludes in December2026.
