Daallo Airlines has added a De Havilland Canada DHC-8-402 Dash 8 Q400 to its fleet, with the 17.8-year-old turboprop now registered as 5Y-DAO. The aircraft, MSN 4232, was manufactured at Bombardier’s Toronto Downsview facility and first flew on 16 October 2008. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW150A engines, the Q400 originally entered service with Horizon Air as N435QX on 29 January 2009 and was subsequently operated on behalf of Alaska Airlines. After leaving commercial service in January 2023, the aircraft was acquired by Jetcraft in November 2024 and was stored at Addis Ababa between January and May 2025. It was subsequently transferred to Daallo Airlines as 7Q-DAL, arriving at Mogadishu from Addis Ababa on 30 May 2025. Following its withdrawal from service in March 2026, the aircraft spent several months in storage at Nairobi’s Wilson Airport before being re-registered 5Y-DAO on 14 August 2026 and positioned to Johannesburg, where it was recorded stored.
