Airline Fleet trails: Week 18, 2026

Uganda Airlines has returned its Airbus A330-800neo to long-haul service after nearly three months of maintenance-related grounding, restoring direct operations on its London–Entebbe route via London Gatwick. The aircraft had been out of service due to technical issues linked largely to Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engine performance concerns, which affected both of the airline’s A330neo aircraft and significantly disrupted its wide-body operations. During the grounding period, Uganda Airlines relied on a wet-leased Boeing 787 operated by Ethiopian Airlines to maintain its London service and protect valuable airport slots under “use-it-or-lose-it” regulations. The A330neo has also been redeployed on other international routes, including Dubai and Mumbai, as the airline works to stabilise its long-haul schedule. The disruption highlights ongoing fleet reliability and maintenance challenges facing the carrier as it continues to expand its intercontinental network while managing a limited wide-body fleet.
