
Nigeria and Sierra Leone have signed a bilateral agreement to enhance aviation safety through joint aircraft accident investigations and the exchange of critical safety information. The Memorandum of Understanding, signed in Abuja, formalises collaboration between the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and the Sierra Leone Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation Bureau (SL-AAIB), enabling joint investigations, expertise sharing, and support in improving safety outcomes. The pact covers training programs, secondment of investigators, flight recorder analysis, access to investigative equipment, and participation in investigations as accredited representatives, aligning with ICAO Annex 13 standards. Both agencies emphasized that the collaboration aims to prevent future accidents rather than assign blame, strengthening investigative capacity across West Africa and supporting broader regional safety goals under the Banjul Accord Group.
