Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) has officially launched Royal Air’s new direct flights between TANZANIA and the COMOROS, marking an important expansion in regional air connectivity aimed at strengthening trade, tourism, and economic cooperation between the two countries. The airline will operate four weekly flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, with Friday services including a cargo-focused return leg, reflecting strong demand for both passenger and freight transport. The route is expected to ease movement for traders—particularly those linked to Dar es Salaam’s Kariakoo market—and improve access for business, investment, and tourism between the two nations, while also adding competition alongside existing operators such as Air Tanzania and Precision Air. Airport authorities and diplomats have welcomed the development as a boost to bilateral relations and regional integration, with expectations that rising demand could eventually support daily services in the future.
Air Transat has expanded its AFRICAN network with the launch of a new direct seasonal route between Montreal and Dakar, SENEGAL, marking the first time a Canadian airline has operated non-stop flights between CANADA and West AFRICA. The inaugural service, flight TS722 operated on 18 June 2026 using an Airbus A321neo (C-GOKH), departed Montreal–Trudeau International Airport and introduced twice-weekly operations (Wednesdays and Saturdays) running through October 2026. The route strengthens connectivity between North AMERICA and AFRICA, with Dakar positioned as a key gateway for West AFRICA, and is expected to support tourism, trade, education, and diaspora mobility. It also reflects broader efforts to deepen AFRICA’S integration into global air networks while reinforcing Dakar’s role as an emerging regional aviation hub.
On 16 June 2026, Air Algérie launched a new international route connecting Algiers to Libreville via Douala, marking a significant expansion of its AFRICAN network and strengthening ALGERIA’S role as an emerging regional aviation hub. The inaugural service was operated by a Boeing 737-800 (7T-VKP) under flight number AH5350, departing from Houari Boumediene International Airport in Algiers on Tuesday evening. The route is designed to improve connectivity between ALGERIA, CAMEROON, and GABON, while reducing dependence on European transit points for intra-AFRICAN travel and supporting the airline’s broader strategy of network growth and fleet expansion. Passengers on the inaugural flight, including business operators and students, praised the service for its efficiency, competitive pricing, and improved access across the region, highlighting its potential to enhance trade, mobility, and South–South cooperation. The new link is widely seen as a strategic step toward strengthening intra-AFRICAN integration and positioning Algiers as a key intercontinental hub.

The service is currently operated once weekly every Wednesday and is aimed at boosting inbound tourism to EGYPT’S emerging coastal destination, which is being developed as part of a broader strategy to diversify tourism beyond traditional hubs such as Cairo and the Red Sea resorts. The airline indicated that the route responds to rising demand from the Armenian market and could see increased frequencies depending on performance. The launch forms part of Air Cairo’s wider international expansion strategy, as it continues to add new destinations and strengthen its position within EGYPT’S growing aviation and tourism sectors.
