
Edelweiss Air launched its first direct Zurich–Windhoek service on 1 June 2026, marking the first non-stop commercial flight between SWITZERLAND and NAMIBIA and a key milestone for the country’s aviation and tourism sector. The inaugural operation was flown as WK82, arriving at Hosea Kutako International Airport with 285 passengers, while the return service WK83 departed Windhoek for Zurich with 261 passengers on board. Operated using an Airbus A350-900, the route will initially run twice weekly, with a third frequency expected from mid-July 2026 to meet growing demand from SWITZERLAND, which recorded about 22,000 two-way travellers with NAMIBIA in 2024. Namibia Airports Company officials described the new connection as a major boost for tourism, trade, and investment, reinforcing NAMIBIA’S position as a globally connected destination. The development also forms part of broader plans to explore cargo opportunities and strengthen long-haul links between NAMIBIA and key European markets.
